Jordan Spieth says every week of the FedExCup will feel like a play-off for the hopefuls pushing to feature at the Ryder Cup.

Davis Love III will name three of his captain's picks for the United States team after the BMW Championship on September 12, followed by a final wildcard in the wake of the Tour Championship on September 25.

This week's Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston is the first opportunity for the contenders to impress and world number three Spieth, second behind Dustin Johnson in the US points standings, is relieved to already be guaranteed a place on the team.

"I take for granted the lack of extra pressure," he said.

"That's a team that everybody wants to be on, as bad as anything they've tried to accomplish this year.

"The guys that are just off the list and in consideration, they pretty much have a play-off with each other every week.

"It certainly adds excitement for those watching, but for those guys [who miss out], that's tough. There's going to be some pretty fantastic players that won't be able to [play]."

Questioned about his physical condition late in the season, Spieth claimed withdrawing from the Olympic Games due to health concerns had afforded him some valuable rest, although he reiterated his disappointment at not being involved in Rio de Janeiro.

"I had expected, looking at the season, that I would be playing in the Olympics," he said.

"By not playing there, my energy levels here are probably higher than they would have been. I also missed out on an experience I certainly wished I was there for."

According to Spieth, who won last year's FedExCup, the lucrative conclusion to the season - introduced in 2007 - is now being prioritised alongside the sport's more traditional big prizes.

"FedExCup is a huge goal of everybody's," he said.

"They're always talking about it. They talk about it like they talk about a major. It would be great to get another one."
