Charles Kumi Gyamfi (C.K. Gyamfi), will be laid in state at the forecourt of the State House in Accra today at 7 a.m. The state burial service will mark the start of the final funeral rites of C.K. Gyamfi 85, who died on September 2, 2015 at the Cocoa Clinic in Accra.

The scheduled funeral rites include a memorial service which will take place tomorrow at the Okorase Methodist School Park at 10 a.m.
The memorial service will be followed by a thanksgiving service at the Rev. Joseph Clegg Memorial Methodist Church in Kaneshie, Accra, on Sunday.
Ghana football legend Charles Kumi Gyamfi has passed away at the age of 86. He died at the Cocoa clinic this morning after a long illness. C.K. Gyamfi as he was popularly called was not only a player of the Black Stars in the late 50’s but coached Ghana to win three African nation cup titles namely 1963, 1965 and 1982. Charles Kumi Gyamfi a retired Ghanaian footballer was remarkable for being the first African player to play in Germany, when he joined Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1960. After retiring as a player he became a coach, and career highlights include leading Ghana to the African Cup of Nations three times, making him the most successful coach in ACN history. This record has since been equalled by Egypt’s Hassan Shehata.

Nana Gyamfi was survived by a wife, Mrs Valerie Quartey Gyamfi, a former national tennis player, and eight sons.
