Hearts of Oak in search for a first away win against Medeama

Since Medeama SC changed their name from Kessben FC, the Phobians are yet to win against them at their home soil.

The two clubs will battle each other for the three points at stake on match day two of the ongoing 2016 Ghana Premier League at the T&A Park in Tarkwa.

The Phobians last week opened their campaign with a 1- 0 win  over New Edubiase at the Accra Sports Stadium while the reigning FA and Super Cup champions went down 2-1 against the defending league champions Ashanti Gold in Obuasi.

Hearts of Oak for the past three seasons have played poorly against Medeama in a Premier League game as their best has been a draw. The last time the Phobians managed to grind out a win was in 2011/112 in Accra when they defeated the Mauve and Yellows 2-1.

However, on Sunday the Phobians who seemingly are picking up the pieces will be searching for their first away win against Medeama and also to end their five-season’s winless streak but Medeaama’s aim is to continue their dominance over Hearts of Oak.

Deputy skipper of Hearts of Oak Owusu Bempa admitted the game will be difficult but he is optimistic his side will pick the three points.

“Medeama have been troubling us for more than three seasons but we are in a different season with atmosphere and mentality, the game will be difficult because they are playing at home but with the kind of motivation in camp I’m sure we will beat Medeama for the three points,” Bempah told Pulse.com.gh

“Last week we won the our first game and the fans came in their numbers to support, we want them to replicate that same support in Medeama’s game and if they do that our opponent will go down, “ he added.

But Medeama’s midfielder Eric Kwaka downplayed Bempah’s prediction insisting they are favorites to win the game on Sunday.

“We have a good record against Hearts of Oak, we know how to beat them we have the upper hand because we are playing at home. Last week we lost 2-1 to Ashgold in Obuasi and we can’t lose to Hearts of Oak at home so we are going all out for the three points because we are favorite to win the game, “ Kwaka told Pulse.com.gh.

The game will kick off at exactly 3:15pm local time (15:15 GMT).

HEAD TO HEAD BETWEEN THE TWO SIDES

The two sides have engaged each other 14 times in the Ghana premier league since Kessben FC (now Medeama SC) gained promotion into the country’s top-flight division in 2007/2008 season.

Medeama have won 7 times as against Hearts of Oak’s 4 with three games ending in a draw.

Out of the 14 meetings, 31 goals have been scored. The Phobians have scoted 14 goals as against Medeam’s 17.
