Irate mob invade courtroom; judge flees

The angry mob was in the courtroom after the judge granted bail to a fetish priest, popularly known as Rasta.

Angry mob Suhum in the Eastern region attempted to attack a presiding judge at the Suhum Circuit Court on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

The presiding judge Oglie Korkovitey had to flee for his life when the mob besieged the court during a hearing.

The irate mob was in the courtroom after the judge granted bail to a fetish priest, popularly known as Rasta.

Rasta allegedly knocked down and killed three residents, including a second-year student at the University of Education Winneba, in Suhum.

When he appeared before the court he was granted bail which got the family of the deceased angry. They, therefore, mobilised some people to attack the judge.

The residents accused Rasta of deliberately knocking down people with his vehicle. Some of them believe that Rasta engages in the killings for ritual purposes.

They see him as a threat in the community hence the reason they wanted the judge to remand him in police custody.

The judge has since not reported to work, hours after fleeing the court.
