A 33-year-old man is in the custody of  the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for allegedly saying that President John Dramani Mahama will fall during this year’s Independence Day parade.

The suspect, Kwame Gyebi was reported to the police after witnesses heard him allegedly made that comment at a drinking bar at Dzorwulu, in Accra.

“People who overheard him reported him to the Airport Police who later handed him over to us.

He occasionally referred to the President as “John” while speaking,” a source at the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), has told Graphic.com.gh.

The BNI has subsequently launched investigations into the reason behind the man's statement.

“We are also running a few security checks because of the security implications of the suspect’s statement.

We cannot take anything for granted,” the BNI source added.

President John Mahama is expected to be at this year’s Independence Day parade, which will be held at the Independence Square on Sunday, March 6, 2016.
