The year of return was an official policy of the Akufo-Addo administration to mark the 400 years since the first slaves landed in the new world from Africa. The policy also encouraged the return of the Caribbeans and African-Americans to Ghana.
Mutombo narrates that he picked that the lady, who has been identified only as Gigi, from the Kotoka International Airport "because she said her friends in Ghana have ditched her and not responding to her text, etc."
According to him, the lady requested for anti-malarial pills, mosquito repellant and soap and promised to pay him back because she didn't have cedis on her.
He further reveals that he paid for the hotel bills of the lady and got her food, based on Gigi's pledge to repay him. The total amount involved was GHC320.
To Mutombo's utmost shock, the lady blocked him on Instagram, the platform they first met and discussed her arrival in Ghana. She subsequently blocked him on WhatsApp, cutting off any communication between them.
"After a I asked her if she managed to change money and she said yes, then she went ahead to say -can i PayPal you? I got confused here! I told her I don’t have PayPal...
"The next day I DMed her to ask for my cash and she told me something like she has decided to decline my request to pay me back the money because I decided to help/hospitable. God, then my stomach! My heart was just beating. I went red! I have attached two snapshots."
"After her last DM in that she blocked me!! Guys no joke! I don’t believe in prayers but I went on my knees & prayed to Jesus Christ of Nazareth! I was shaking. My wife even asked if I was fine on that day. Knowing her, if I told her that I’ve been scammed she’ll tell me to let go," he tweeted.
In the long thread, he revealed how he devised a plan with his friends to apprehend Gigi, who attempted to run away with his money.
This was after he requested Gigi to repay his money and she responded saying "I have decided to decline your request."
"Mutombo, relax, start breathing”, the little man in me kept on telling me! I got a call to come through and bam! “We got ‘em!” She said “oh hi!” I was like “where is my money!” Then she took out 30ghc saying “take your money! Aboa!”

Meanwhile, Gigi has responded to Mutombo's claims in a video.
She said Mutombo voluntarily booked the hotel for her, claiming that she declined Mutombo's demand for sex that is why he pursued her for his money.
According to her, she would have paid for everything but she only had on her dollars and not cedis.
She also noted in her video that Mutombo kept saying “I get It.”
"So in America when some says I get it that means I will take care of it as a gift," she said.
