Assistant coach of the Black Stars Ibrahim Tanko has indicated that there will be surprises in the Black Stars squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

James Kwesi Appiah is expected to name his probable Black Stars squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt by 20th May and all Ghanaian football fans are anxiously looking forward to hearing the players that would make the list.

Ahead of the announcement Ibrahim Tanko who is the assistant coach of the senior national male football team of Ghana has said that there will be surprises in the squad.

“We (Ghanaians) should expect a team that will help us to achieve our goal, and yes there will be a few surprises in the team which is normal. 

"We should also expect one or two local players to make the initial 30-man squad for the training tour in Abu Dhabi,” Tanko said this on the sidelines of the 2019 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards Night last Saturday,

The deputy coach also confirmed that the Black Stars will have at least two friendly games before the tournament kicks off on June 21 but refused to name which countries Ghana will play in those friendlies.

There Black Stars will jet off to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, June 1, 2019, and that Ghana will Kwesi Appiah will name his final 23-man squad after the two friendlies.

The Black Stars have been drawn in the same group with Benin, Guinea-Bissau and Cameroon.

The Black Stars are chasing a first AFCON title in over three decades. The last time Ghana won the trophy was in 1982.
