Swansea beat championship leaders, Wolves 2-1 to advance to the next stage of the competition and will be back in Premiership action against in-form, Liverpool, who ended league leaders Manchester City’s unbeaten run with a 4-3 victory at the Anfield.

Liverpool is yet to lose a game after going down 1-4 to Tottenham in October and have won 13 of their last 18 games in all competitions but Ayew is hopeful his team, who sit bottom of the log can still beat Jurgen Klopp’s men and boost their confidence.

“Confidence is very important and winning on Wednesday night boosted the team’s confidence. That can help us mentally for Monday’s match [against Liverpool].

“We know it’s not going to be easy on Monday but with the support we have and quality in the squad, we know we have to start improving and winning games. We need points, and that’s the target,” Jordan said.

Ayew opened the scoring for the Swans in Wednesday’s game and had some words for his striking partner, Wilfried Bony who scored the winner against Wolves.

“A striker lives for goals. I’m happy for Wilfried because it’s not been easy for him as he has had to deal with injuries,” added Ayew.

“On Wednesday he showed the big, quality striker that he is. His performance and goal give us confidence as a team as well going into Monday’s game… We know he is a big player and he can produce big performances, and we all have confidence in him.”

Swansea City has only won four and drawn five of their 23 league games this season.
