O.J. Mayo has been "dismissed and disqualified" from the NBA for violating its anti-drug program, the league announced Friday.
While the announcement provided no specifics, the terminology of the statement is important as the collective bargaining agreement with the players' association states "if a player tests positive for a drug of abuse, he will be dismissed and disqualified from the NBA."
A "drug of abuse" as labeled by the league, includes hard drugs such as amphetamines, LSD, cocaine, heroin, and PCP.
The 28-year-old shooting guard, who played last season with the Bucks, has to wait two years before he can apply for reinstatement.

He is the 11th different player in NBA history to be disqualified over drug abuse.
Mayo was the third overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Timberwolves, who immediately traded him to the Grizzlies in an eight-player deal that brought Kevin Love to Minnesota. Mayo spent four seasons in Memphis and one in Dallas before landing in Milwaukee for the 2013-14 season.
