A couple's 9/11 bomb blast-themed wedding cake has led to a huge controversy after photos surfaced online.

Jerry Casale - 67-yr-old founding member of US rock band, Devo, got married on the 14th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks to his bride,Krista Napp, at Michael's Restaurant in Santa Monica, California, Daily Mail reports.

Photos from the reception showed Casale and Krista smiling next to their wedding cake made in the shape of the Twin Towers, with the bride and groom's faces plastered to the side.

However, after the photos had surfaced online, Casale in a video recording obtained by TMZ, denied any part in the much-criticised dessert, adding that the cake represents him and his bride as the Twin Towers of love.

The blast resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent Americans.
