15.7 million voters on register expected to vote

Projections by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) indicates that Ghanaians 18 years and above for this year is about 15,931,453.

Despite the fact that the voters’ register is very important in the electoral process, projections by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) indicates that Ghanaians 18 years and above for this year is about 15,931,453.

This makes it 98.6% of eligible voters in Ghana.

But the Electoral Commission (EC) has a final voters register of 15,703,890, eligible to vote in the elections on December 7 presidential and parliamentary polls.

Head of Communication and Pub­lic Relations of EC, Mr Eric Kofi Dzakpasu after the exhibition of the voters' register said data compiled by the EC indicates that at the end of the exhibition, 6.5 million (6,566,049) voters visited polling sta­tions to check their names.

An opinion poll conducted by pollster Ben Ephson indicates that, President John Mahama will secure a first round victory in the 2016 elections with 52.4 percent.

According to the opinion survey conducted on November 16, 2016 , three-time presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, is likely to garner 45.9 percent of votes with the rest of the presidential candidates having a sum of 1.7 percent of the total votes cast.
