Kotoko pip Dreams FC in Kumasi

Amos Frimpong continued his scoring form for Kotoko by securing all the three points for the hosts on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors last celebrated a win on match day 17 against Wa All Stars and have since drawn 3, lost 2, before this win against Dreams FC.

The game was heading for a goalless draw when a Kotoko player was fouled in the 18-yard box and the referee awarded the home side a penalty kick.

Amos Frimpong, the Kotoko skipper, who has been his team’s top scorer in the second round stepped up to beat Philemon McCarthy in the 85th minute.

Dreams FC came to Kumasi with a game plan to frustrate Asante Kotoko. They were very strong in midfield and closed in on Kotoko to battle them out for all the 50-50 balls.  It forced Kotoko to commit series of fouls and subsequently went into the referee’s books for yellow cards.

Although the game was an end to end action Dreams FC were committed to midfield play, finding it difficult to break into the Kotoko defence, Kotoko managed to get the ball into the 18-yard box of the visitors. However, they failed to utilise the chances that came their way, as the attacking pair of Dauda Mohammed and Kwame Boateng lacked the fire instinct to break the deadlock in the first half.

Osei Agyemang gave veteran striker Eric Gawu who led the Dreams FC attack some torrid time as he picked the majority of the air balls and proved tough to beat.

In the second half, Asante Kotoko were denied a seemingly penalty, after Emmanuel Gyamfi was brought down in the 18-yard box.

Abeiku Ainooson, who is on loan to Dreams FC from Asante Kotoko gave his parent-club difficult moments as he marked the likes of Dauda Mohammed and Kwame Boateng closely.

Kotoko threw everything into attack in their quest to churn out good results by bringing on two strikers: Seidu Bancey and Obed Owusu.

Eric Gawu could have silenced the Baba Yara Sports stadium, but he failed to convert an opportunity that was presented to him in the 79th minute.

Amos Frimpong brought smiles back on the faces of the numerous Asante Kotoko fans  when he scored the only goal of the game from the spot-kick in the late minute of the game.
