Dead body exhumed and allegedly raped

The family was compelled to rebury Maame Ajoa, popularly called Maajoa after her body was reportedly found in the cemetery by a certain woman who had visited the area to fetch firewood.

The incident happened at Wassa Saaman in the Wassa Amenfi East District of the Western Region.

Later, when youth of the town went to the burial ground to dig grave for another burial, they realized that the woman’s report which was earlier not believed was indeed true.

“When the family came to the cemetery, they identified the body as that of Maajoa and they immediately went to inform the chief and elders of the community,” a witness told Adomonline.com.

The body was subsequently reburied after chiefs and elders of the community had performed some rituals.

Adomonline.com quoted a source as saying, “We are suspecting that the purported ‘sakawa’ boys might have raped or had sex with the corpse.”

The news portal further quoted a family member of the deceased as asserting, “When we were burying Maajoa, we covered all her body except the head, so it’s strange that the cloth covering her private part has been removed and her legs wide opened.”
