Lawyers of the Montie trio have described the decision of President Mahama remittance of the remaining prison sentence imposed on the three as a fair one.

One of the lawyers for the three George Loh said the President only exercised his constitutional powers.

He further argued that he does not believe President Mahama has erred by granting pardon to the three even though a Ghanaian citizen, Elikplim L. Agbemava, filed a suit seeking an interlocutory injunction to restrain the President from exercising his prerogative of mercy to free the three contemnors.

But Edudzi Tamakloe said he believes no legal advice has been given to the President on the matter. “I personally believe the President hasn’t been advised legally on this matter. I, for now, want to associate myself with my client in this excitement in the remission that they have gotten.”

He said the contemnors have shown remorse for their actions even before they were sentenced. He encouraged that everybody learns from the case of the three.

“What is not in doubt is the fact that these individuals at all material times as we speak do not stand by those words. Like any Ghanaian they are entitled to this prerogative of mercy and the president has to exercise it. I want to believe that relative to them being of good conduct it’s a lesson for all of us especially those of us behind the microphone.”
