Leadership of the Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party, NPP has condemned recent statement coming from a group called the Ashanti Region Constituency Chairmen Association, which called on the Council of Elders to immediately withdraw a petition for the suspension of Paul Akoko.
The statement signed by five chairmen from the Ashanti region over the weekend said the move by the Council of Elders is a dangerous one as they have also flouted a directive by the flag bearer of the party to cease fire.
The Association said it is disappointed that “despite the continuous public appeal by the flag bearer to party members to refrain from taking internal party issues to the media, certain senior party figures have openly disrespected the flag bearer's calls.
But, speaking in an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the party's regional secretary, Sam Pyne said his regional party has nothing to do with the statement coming from the group.
"The party constitution recognises certain organs like the youth wing, women's wing, but as to constituency chairmen association, there's nothing like that...They don't take decisions for the party within the region. Whatever decision that came from them is condemnable. They never consulted anybody and wrote it", he said.
Mr. Sam Pyne further said it is 'ridiculous' that the same group who are asking that internal party issues should not be made public has rather come out with a press statement without consulting first of all, the regional party leadership.
"What is intriguing and ridiculous about the whole thing is that one party matter that you are condemning - that party internal matters should not be taken to the press; the statement that you issued was not even a letter or a petition to the regional party but a press statement, something for the media. This is where hypocrisy and ignorance of those who wrote is exposed, he added.
The regional secretary however said his party would hold a regional executive committee to discuss such issues and deal with the perpetrators.
