Steven Naismith scores hat-trick as Everton beat Chelsea 3-1

Steven Naismith is the hat-trick hero as Everton condemn Chelsea to their worst start to a season since 1988-89

Jose Mourinho's worst ever start to a league campaign continued after the defending champions Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Everton at Goodison Park.

All attention focused on John Stones, the subject of a succession of failed bids from the Blues this summer, at the beginning of the game. The young defender impressed, but it was early substitute Steven Naismith who stole the plaudits with a superb hat-trick after replacing the injured Muhamed Besic.

Nemaja Matic, who has now scored both of his Premier League goals at Goodison, pulled one back for the visitors with a thunderous drive in the first half, but it wasn't enough to stop Toffees fans from chanting 'You're getting sacked in the morning' in the direction of Mourinho.

Naismith's afternoon will end with a bit of pain though as Begovic catches him in the head with his knee as he comes to claim the ball. I'm sure Naismith won't care.

And that's it. A stunning performance by Everton and Naismith in particular who grabbed a hat-trick having come on as an early replacement for the injured Muhamed Besic.

Although Nemanja Matic halved the deficit amid a spell of Chelsea pressure at the end of the first-half, they were poor all afternoon and failed to really test Tim Howard.
