Oye Lithur embroiled in drama at PAC hearing

The former director of the Department Mariama Yahaya who was watching the Public Accounts Committee encounter on television, stormed parliament’s conference room to respond to the Minister’s accusations.

Nana Oye Lithur was asked questions about the GHC17,000 expenditure that was not accounted for and blamed the former director of the Department of Children for it.

The former director of the Children’s Department launched her own counter-accusations of what she describes as an unfair treatment meted out to her by the minister.

She accused the Minister of wrongfully interdicting and suspending her, and not giving her the chance to provide receipts for the expenditure, because the Minister had changed the locks to her office.

Unconfirmed reports have it that the former Director has  proceeded to  sue the Minister for maltreatment.

“The Hon. Minister wrongfully interdicted me. I was reinstated by the Civil Service Council so I am still the director for the department of children.”

She revealed  that as at the time the Auditors went through the Department’s account books, she had been replaced by another director of the Department.

“So I had the privilege to be called to come there and I went to explain to the Auditors that that Ghc14,000 was for interviews I conducted,” she said.

She told the Chairman of PAC that “All the receipts were in my cabinet and the Minister had changed the lock to my office when I got there”, she told the sitting.
