The robbers are Benjamin Lobo, Devine Zano, Andrew Zano and Mawuli Zano. The police are on the hunt for the suspects who operate in Doboro, Ntoaso, Afumkrom and other towns along the Nsawam highway since 2002.
A gun battle between the police and suspected armed robbers on Wednesday in the Eastern region resulted in the death of one suspected criminal and the arrest of three others.
Explaining their mode of operation to Pulse.com.gh the Eastern Regional Police PRO, ASP Nketiah said "they attacked a vehicle by smashing the side of the windscreen with a rock forcing the vehicle to stop. The four suspected robbers rushed on the passengers with machetes to attack them."
Unfortunately for the robbers two armed police officers who were on board the vehicle opened fire on them killing one, but the rest managed to escape.
They were later arrested after the police upon investigation heard two of them talking about the incident in town. The two were immediately arrested and they in turn led the police to arrest the fourth accomplice.
The suspects are in police custody while investigations continue.
The Eastern Regional police command is cautioning motorists to desist from stopping at secluded areas when attacked on the highway
