Transfer Deadline Day! Ghanaian players have had their fair share of will he go, will he not in the January transfer window.
The Ghanaian perspective of the transfer window
The transfer window has ended. This is what you need to know about transfers involving Ghanaian players
English Premier League side Swansea City had to battle transfer rumours in keeping their best player of the season Andre Ayew who joined the club at the start of the season from Olympique Marseille.
Sunderland were determined to sign the Black Stars vice-captain but later gave up as the Welsh club were unwilling to sit at the table for a deal.
The most quickly-spread and surprising news involving Ghanaians in the January window was Ghanaian player Gideon Baah’s link with Spanish La Liga giants FC Barcelona.
Baah took over Ghana twitter with the transfer news with some news outlets revealing the player was in Spain set for a medical. The window has shut close and it’s safe to confirm Gideon Baah is still a player of Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi in Finland.
Some deals were however completed in January involving Ghanaian players and PulseSports Transfer Deadline Day takes a look at these transfers.
Christian Atsu: Chelsea to Malaga [Loan]
Ghanaians want to see the Black Stars winger shine at the very top. Dubbed as Africa’s Lionel Messi Atsu had starred in the Portuguese league before joining English Premier League Champions Chelsea.
Atsu has however had a horrible time with respect to game time at club level. Lack of game time at Premier League side Everton made the Ghanaian change to join AFC Bournemouth at the start of this season. Injuries and lack of playing time made Chelsea cut the loan spell short.
Christian Atsu has joined Spanish La Liga side Malaga for the rest of the season. The best player of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nation tournament now has another stage. It’s time for him to shine.
Daniel Amartey: FC Copenhagan to Liecester City
Daniel Amartey has joined Jeffrey Schlupp, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Abdul Baba Rahman in the English Premier League.
Leicester City are top of the league and are in no way giving up their position as they continue to wow with a series of great performance.
The club has been both consistent with the performances, squad and tactics and would be a difficult side for Ghana international Amartey to get in. But the versatility of the former FC Copenhagan player could ease his way in getting into the squad. Amartey is a good player and could fit in Claudio Ranieri’s side.
Kevin-Prince Boateng: Schalke 04 to AC Milan
The Ghanaian international nearly hanged up his boots. That is the extent the troubles with German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 affected Prince Boateng. Suspended from the senior national team of Ghana, having no club and failing to secure a move had some negative impact on Boateng.
AC Milan was a perfect solution and the Ghanaian’s performance for the Italian side since his return has proved the move was a good move.
Patrick Asmah: BA United to Atalanta
This is how dreams are realized. From a great performance in the Ghana Premier League to top stage in the Italian Serie A.
Patrick Asmah now has the opportunity. It’s time to shine whenever he is given some playing time. These deals don’t come along very often and for now, he had no choice but to accept the challenge.
Richmond Boakye Yiadon: Atalanta to Latina
From Juventus to Latina in a few years is not something one would hope for. But Richmond Boakye is still young at 23 and has the potential to resurrect his football dreams.
The determination to follow African football legend Samuel Eto’o is a motivation that Boakye has the ambition. Let’s hope Latina is the right platform for that development.
Samuel Inkoom: Boavista to Antalyaspor
Derek Boateng: Eibar to Rayo OKC
Michael Anabah: Elche to CD Alcoyano [Loan]
Haminu Draman: Charlotte Independence to FC Infonet
Richard Gadze: Delhi Dynamos to HJK
