The office of the Chief Imam has allayed fears over the fate of some Ghanaian pilgrims following the stampede in Saudi Arabia.
At least 717 people have been killed in a stampede, with several others injured at the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which took place in Mina, on the outskirts of the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia's civil defence directorate has said.
However, investigations conducted by the Chief Imam have revealed that no Ghanaian has been affected.
Speaking on Accra-based Starr FM, spokesperson of the Chief Imam, Alhaji Usman Mohammed said "I can confirm now that the office of the Chief Imam has not received any information on the incident. The information we had is that indeed there are some Africans but no Ghanaian has been injured or lost his life in the stampede or any of the unfortunate incident that happened in Mecca".
He said the Chief Imam is in constant communication with the Chairman of the Hajj Board who has indicated that no Ghanaian has been affected yet.
The Chief Imam, he said, has however prayed that no Ghanaian gets injured or loses his or her life in the incident.
