95 Yr Old Man Breaks The 200m World Record

It’s unlikely that he’ll be challenging Usain Bolt anytime soon, but this 95-year-old pensioner proved that he’s still pretty speedy as he ran the 200 metres in a record-breaking 55.48 seconds.

Dr Charles Eugster broke the indoor running record in the over 95 category at the British Masters Championship on Saturday, and then returned to his hotel in London’s West End for a thoroughly deserved nap.

The silver-haired speed demon only started racing last year, but also managed to set a British record, as he ran 60m in an impressive time of 15.32 seconds.

Speaking at Lee Valley Athletics centre, he said: ‘It proves you can set challenges and goals at any age and achieve them’.

Sylvia Gattiker, his coach, hailed the record as ‘a fantastic achievement’.

Although originally from London, Dr Eugster now lives in Zurich, Switzerland, and also happens to be the British Masters outdoor record holder in the 100m and 200m categories.

Oh, and this is all on top of the 40 gold medals he’s previously won for rowing.
