Scavenger in trouble for raping 12-yr-old girl in Niger

A scavenger has been arrested for raping a 12-year-old hawker.

A 32-year-old dustbin scavenger based in Anguwar Madan-Biri, Madalla, Niger State, identified simply as Haliru, is now cooling his randy heels in the police cell after members of the local vigilante in the area arrested him for raping a 12-year-old girl on Saturday, November 28, reports Daily Trust.

It was gathered that Haliru lured the girl who was hawking bananas to an abandoned building in the area and defiled her.

His arrest came after the mother of the girl waited for her till late in the evening and went in search of her with some neighbours and was shocked when she found the minor naked with the accused who scavenged for scrap metals in the area on top of her.

He was arrested by the neighbours who were bent on lynching him before he was rescued by the vigilantes before taking him to the police station.

An eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned, said it was not the first time the man had raped the girl and other minors in the area.

“The girl usually brings bananas to sell to the man, and she would sometimes stay at the place for a whole day,” he said.
