16-yr-old girl found after eloping with lover 11 months earlier
A girl who was declared missing was found after she ran away with her boyfriend.
The teenager was who was reported missing in January, 2015, was found by her relations in her village who contacted the father who had almost given up hope of seeing his daughter again.
The girl was allegedly lured away from her parents residence by the lover boy, Emmanuel John, a 21-year-old man who first took her to Gwarimpa, another area in the city.
A source told Daily Trust that the girl spent the first two months of her disappearance with the man until he got a job for her in a hotel but trouble started when the girl stopped receiving her salary and later discovered it was being collected on her behalf by the boyfriend without her consent.
“She became even more annoyed when she further discovered that her salary was being lavished on other girls by Emmanuel even when her own immediate needs were not being met,” the source said.
Out of anger, the girl left John's residence few days ago and instead of going to her parents' home, decided to travel to her village where some relations found her and reported to her family.
“The girl had already spent three days in the village when her relations realised that she was there without the father’s knowledge of her whereabouts and therefore informed him immediately," another family source added.
The Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nurrudeen Sabo, confirmed the incident, saying Maria has been brought to Abuja from the village and is currently at the police station following a report by the father on her disappearance from home, while the lover boy has been arrested too and would be charged to court for kidnap.
