Two Ghanaian men and a Nigerian woman who were arrested on Wednesday in Caserta northwest of Naples, Italy for allegedly using ‘juju’ to force a minor into prostitution are expected to be put before court for the first time on Thursday.
The Ghanaguardian reported that the two Ghanaians, 32-year-old man Seare Seth Asare and Joy Kingsley, 48 as well as 38-year-old Nigerian woman, Edith Osazuwa were arrested by the Italian police after reports suggesting that the trio did not only use voodoo to manipulate the said minor, but also subjected her to severe beatings, apparently because of her unwillingness to kowtow to their demands.
The Italian laws frown upon coercing minors into prostitution and the police said they three suspects will be arraigned for court on Thursday to face trial for the offence.
Authorities have declined to reveal details of the victim saying she had "suffered mistreatment" at the hands of the culprits.
The incident reportedly took place in an African community in Caserta where 20,000 foreigners live, about three quarters of whom are reportedly irregular immigrants.
