Prior to their new status, the family of Mr. & Mrs. Ben Ogar popularly known as the Ogoja mentally deranged couple were seen walking together with their three children, all looking unkempt.

News about their plight became topical and touched the hearts of many people across the continent including authorities of Nigeria’s Rivers State where they reside and some humanitarian organisations.

Subsequent to that, a search was mounted by a team from the Cross River State Government and Federal Neuro Psychiatric hospital, Calabar in the state and they have finally been located and being attended to.

According to gistreel.com, Mr. Ben and his wife lost their means of livelihood about six years ago while residing in Abuja with their two kids, and what followed was a mental disorder.

He thought it wise to relocate with his wife to his home in Ogoja where he opted to stay in a shanty rather than his father’s house, the news website reported.

It is further reported that as soon as Mr. Ben and started exhibiting signs of mental derangement, his family rescued their first set of kids from thm.

The couple then roamed the streets of Ogoja for six good years during which they brought forth the three children they are seen in the heart-breaking photos with.

They basically have five children, but the first two are probably in a good condition due to the fact that they had been rescued early enough by family members.

Reports say doctors confirmed after examination that Mr. Ben has been suffering from a mental disorder, while his wife is only having the ‘folie a deux’ syndrome as a result of her husband’s ideation.

For the children, two girls and a boy, reports say they are in very stable condition and are responding to treatment very well.

Gistreel.com reported Progress Oberiko as saying support is yet to come from the government who initiated their rescue.

However, aside the alleged lack of support, the poor family has transformed so much that they look happy at the rehabilitation center where they are being attended to.
