British tourist covered in human poo after falling into uncovered sewage drainage

A British tourist went viral recently after falling into an open sewer drain in Bangkok.

The unidentified man, who is 46, slipped and fell into the uncovered whole in the north of the Thai capital after he left a restaurant with two friends at around 11.30pm on Tuesday September 1.

The tourist was eventually rescued and he was treated for cuts and bruises.

A spokesman for the rescue service said: "He was up to his chest in liquid waste but it at least gave him a soft landing that meant his injuries were not too severe."

He added that the man's friends had raised the alarm after seeing him fall into the 10ft hole.

The man has reportedly said that he plans to claim compensation from the local council as there were no warning signs around the manhole.

The manhole was left open by Bangkok city workers conducting road repairs.
