The news website reports that when the minister was asked about things like the power grid and malware, he was found wanting.

He sparked  a huge laughter when he said that USB was “basically never used” in Japan’s nuclear power stations, which led many to believe that he didn’t understand the technology at all.

The drama heightened when Sakurada admitted that he has never used a computer, hence his deficit in the area he was being questioned about.

The Japan Times quoted him as saying: “I don’t use computers because since I was 25 I have been in a position of authority where secretaries and employees handle such tasks for me. I give instructions to my aide and so I don’t punch into a computer myself, but I am confident our work is flawless.”

Sakurada is a 68-year-old long serving member of the Japanese parliament who was appointed a minister just last month.

Reports say his core mandate is to formulate policies geared towards the country’s cyber security, which includes safeguarding 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Though reports say the minister’s portfolio does not necessarily demand that he must be an expert in ICT, some people found his hilarious admission as unfortunate.

Masato Imai, a politician from the opposition Democratic Party said: “I find it unbelievable that someone who is responsible for cyber-security measures has never used a computer.”

You can trust social media users to make mockery of the minister.

One twitter user said: “If a hacker targets this Minister Sakurada, they wouldn’t be able to steal any information. Indeed it might be the strongest kind of security!”

Another user also said: “Today any company president uses a PC. He doesn’t even know what a USB is. Holy cow.”
