A 25-year-old man, Ibrahim Ashiru, has been remanded in prison custody by a Katsina Senior Magistrates' Court, after he was arraigned for attempting to murder his estranged wife.

A man has been sent to prison for attempting to murder his ex-wife.
Aside the attempted murder charge, Ashiru was also charged with tresspass and causing grievous injury to the woman.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Hashimu Musa, told the court that Ashiru who is s resident of Sabuwar Unguwa area in Rimi Local Government Area of the state, committed the offences on June 20, 2014.
Musa said that the new husband of the woman, one Muhammad Aminu, reported the matter at the Rimi Divisional Police Station, where he stated that Ashiru was angry that is former wife left him and got married to another man after he divorced her earlier.
According to the prosecutor, the accused trespassed into Aminu's house at about 2.00 am and used a machete to injure the woman on several parts of her body.
Musa said that Aminu also sustained injuries in the attack when he tried to prevent Ashiru from murdering his wife.
The Magistrate, Hajiya Nafisa Bagiwa, said that the court would not take the plea of the accused as it had no jurisdiction to do so, since the case against him involved attempted murder.
She therefore adjourned the matter to September 1 for mention and ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
