Citi TV honours veteran broadcaster at ‘The Eminence’

The award, which was presented to him by Samira Bawumia, wife of the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was to celebrate Tommy Annan Forson for his immense contribution to broadcasting in Ghana.

The award, which was presented to him by Samira Bawumia, wife of the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was to celebrate 'Uncle Tom', as he is affectionately called,  for his immense contribution to broadcasting in Ghana.

Receiving the plaque and a citation, the man, nicknamed Air Marshal, thanked the organizers for recognising his great works.

“I would like to say a very big thank you to Citi TV for this honour. I really appreciate it. In fact, I am so much overwhelmed,” he said.

This grand event aims to recognise and celebrate the brightest stars in the influencer space across Ghana, showcasing the incredible talent that continues to shape the digital landscape.

Annan-Forson has been influential in the training of a number of the country’s best broadcasters through his school, Rabodef Radio Academy, which is affiliated to international broadcast institutions like Deutsche Welle (DW) Radio Academy, Radio France International (RFI) and the American Embassy’s Information Service.

The CITI TV event, dubbed ‘The Eminence’, is aimed at celebrating and recognising the contributions of individual personalities who have impacted their various fields in a positive way.

The maiden edition considered Tommy Annan-Forson, a Ghanaian broadcaster of more than 35 years experience in media practice.

Uncle Tom took to the stage to dazzle the audience with his Disk jockeying skills, playing some great old tunes to relive his days when he was loud on air.

Present at the ceremony were personalities such as actor Kofi Adjorlolo, satirist Kwaku Sintim Misa, wife of the Vice-President, Samira Bawumia, former MP and Minister of State Fritz Baffuor and actor/broadcaster JOT Agyeman.

Others were the Communications Director for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Ahuma Ocansey Bosco, music producer Fred Kyei-Mensah and entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah Baidoo.

The programme, which took place at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, was attended by Tommy’s family and friends. His wife Nana Yaa Agyare feted him with some soothing music, displaying immaculate singing abilities.

The event was spiced up by great musical performance from Deep Wave band from James Town in Accra, and was climaxed by a performance from highlife veteran A.B Crenstil.

Managing Director of Citi FM, Samuel Atta-Mensah said, Mr Annan-Forson deserved recognition for impacting many lives in the media landscape such as himself.

He said ‘The Eminence’ event has come to stay, to celebrate Ghanaians who are excelling and making great impact in various fields of work.
