Not everyone is happy when they decide to file for divorce but this couple took happiness to another level when they showed the world what compromise really means.

Chris and Shannon Neuman took a 'divorce selfie' which went viral because of the couple's mood at the time the photo was taken.

The couple who had been together for 11 years, posted a photo of them smiling together after they had officially filed for divorce which made social media go into a frenzy as it was been shared thousands of times.

Shannon had written on her Facebook page, "Here's Chris Neuman and I yesterday after filing for divorce!" and hash-tagged it tagged #teamneuman and #divorceselfie.

On the main reason for posting the divorce selfie Shannon said, "we have respectfully, thoughtfully and honourably ended our marriage in a way that will allow us to go forward as parenting partners for the two children we had during their 11 years of marriage."

"They won't have to struggle with their own wedding planning because we'll be sitting on the same side of the aisle - THEIR side."

The couple told reporters they had been separated for four years, "this marriage was mourned, we promise you." But after so much heartache, the photo wasn't a celebration but a commemoration of "the accomplishment of a goal that we worked really hard to reach ... it felt good to achieve a positive outcome and share that with our friends and family,"

Shannon on her Facebook page also encouraged other couples that  it's "possible to love your kids more than you hate/distrust/dislike your ex."
