Finn Russell will miss Scotland's tour of Japan next month due to a head injury.

The Glasgow Warriors stand-off was hospitalised after Saturday's Pro12 semi-final defeat at Connacht.

Russell remains in hospital under observation as a result of a clash of heads in the first minute, but the Warriors revealed that their playmaker will not require surgery.

The 23-year-old is expected to be discharged this week, but will not travel to Japan for a two-match series starting on June 18.

Scotland have yet not called up a replacement for Russell, but revealed that adjustments to the squad will be confirmed "in due course."
