Queensland half-back Cooper Cronk has been cleared to play in the State of Origin opener against New South Wales.

The Melbourne Storm star has been battling an ankle injury in the lead up to Wednesday's opener at ANZ Stadium.

In good news for Queensland, Cronk was cleared to feature for the Maroons in Sydney despite battling to train.

That comes as a huge boost to Queensland, who have won nine of the past 10 Origin series.
