The Toronto Blue Jays extracted some revenge on the Tampa Bay Rays as they claimed a 7-5 win inspired by a three-run seventh inning.
Devon Travis had four hits, including the go-ahead single in the seventh, while Edwin Encarnacion slugged career homer number 299 with a solo effort and also hit a two-run single as the Blue Jays chase a return to the top of the American League East.
The San Francisco Giants needed 14 innings to get the job done against the Miami Marlins 8-7, with Brandon Belt scoring the crucial run off a Brandon Crawford single.
There was free baseball in Milwaukee as well, where the Brewers went down 4-3 to the Atlanta Braves as Matt Kemp scored on Gordon Beckham's sacrifice fly that was misfielded by centre fielder Keon Broxton to seal the win for the visiting Braves.
The Minnesota Twins picked up a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros, while the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 and the Texas Rangers picked up a 4-3 win over the Colorado Rockies.
The Oakland Athletics managed a 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles, while the Seattle Mariners shut out the Detroit Tigers 3-0 and the Los Angeles Dodgers scored a big 9-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
TRADEMARK TRAVIS
Travis went four-for-five with a triple, RBI and two runs scored in Toronto's 7-5 win over the visiting Rays. The four-hit day helped Travis increase his batting average from .293 to .304. Not to be overlooked was Travis' team-mate, Encarnacion, who was 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs.
ED-WIN GETS IT DONE
Encarnacion has been in superb form this season and he is now just one good hit away from his 300th career home run after this effort against the Rays.
RARE DAY OFF
Houston gave second baseman Jose Altuve a day off on Monday, snapping his streak of 202 consecutive games played. Altuve was ejected in the seventh inning of Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers. Houston has lost six of seven following Monday's 3-1 loss to the Twins. Angels centre fielder Mike Trout now has the longest active streak of games played.
RANGERS MEET ROCKIES
After the Rangers took the first of a four-game series at Coors Field, Colorado will send Tyler Chatwood (10-7, 3.63 ERA) to the mound while A.J. Griffin (5-1, 4.05) will get the start for the Rangers.
