Want to earn a Strathmore
The Kenyan college, yesterday, announced that students can now acquire university degrees and certification using almost nothing but their smartphones.
That will be empowered through Strathmore Mobile, with oversight from Strathmore University personnel and help from a system of certified learning mentors.
The college has cooperated with One University Network in adding to this groundbreaking initiative that is the world's first. One University, a Silicon Valley-based education technology organization, developed the Android mobile learning technology and coaching platform that will be used in the program.
Strathmore University Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Odhiambo says, "With the introduction of Strathmore Mobile, Strathmore University will bridge Kenyaâs higher education gap and deliver on our mission of providing high quality, outcome-driven scholarship while embracing entrepreneurial innovation as a global leader in higher education".
On his part, Gene Wade, CEO of One University Network expressed his organization's excitement in its association with Strathmore University including, "Kenya has been a world leader in mobile adoption and we are confident that through Strathmore Mobile, the nation will become a leader in mobile higher education. We are committed to realizing this vision together with Strathmore".
The Strathmore University application will contain class materials including recordings, readings and intelligent interactive activities.
Students will be given an accomplished learning coach with subject matter expertise to guide them through. Upon completion of the course work, they will sit a supervised examination at a secure testing centre.
The college hasn't unveiled insights with respect to the particular degree projects and accreditations that will be offered on Mobile, the start date or fees involved/
Strathmore University's cell phone based degree and endorsement system will be available to students all through Africa.
