The incident took place in Ghana on March 20, 2024, where homosexuality is illegal and anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment is prevalent.

The victim, Michael Agyemang, had long been suspected by his friends and was visited by a church member.

One afternoon, they were allegedly in a room belonging to one of his childhood friends, who returned and claimed to have witnessed them fondling each other, naked, prompting him to raise the alarm.

Subsequently, a group of young men stormed the house, accusing them of being gay and engaging in illicit affairs within the community.

They viciously beat Michael and his companion with clubs, machetes, stones, and sticks.

The man's movements had been under surveillance for some time by the anti-gay group.

According to an eyewitness, the group had been monitoring his activities for a while and had even interrogated young men seen in his vicinity.

Another member of the group said they will make sure they deal with Agyemang accordingly anytime they catch him and anybody who is found doing gayism or lesbianism in the community.
