Ministerial nominees should come for vetting with small entourage - Parliament

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has restricted the number of supporters to that accompany nominated ministers for vetting to 10 henceforth and has vowed to keep to that number.

The vetting committee of Parliament has cut down on the number entourage who follow ministers designate to their vetting sessions.

According to a member of the committee, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak Mohammed who doubles as the member of Parliament for the Asawase constituency, "The nominees themselves will not be allowed to come with more than 10 persons including spouses. We have designed an invitation card that will be given to every member and when they are coming you have to hold your invitation card and if you don’t have it you can’t have access."

Speaking to an Accra-based Joy FM Thursday evening, he said the Appointments Committee of Parliament has restricted the number of supporters to ten henceforth and has vowed to keep to that number.

The committee in previous times had been bedeviled with number of people who accompany ministerial nominees to the vetting committee.

The Committee said it has communicated its directive to all the ministerial nominees due for vetting next week and anyone who fails to comply will "not be vetted."

"If any appointee comes with more than ten people, be rest assured that we are not going to vet that person. We have informed them individually to come and take their invitation cards and the number include spouses and children.

"It has become a major worry for all of us in Parliament
 People travel overnight and when they get here they get tired and people sleep all over the place and we can’t allow this anymore.

"We are going to tighten security to make sure on the said day, there will be escort and supporters will be outside the precinct of parliament," he noted.
