Ebenezer Atsu, 32 years and Shepherd Acolatse, 55, according Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Doku, approached a shrine with the names above, including some other prominent personalities to cast a spell on them to cancel the referendum on the creation of new regions.

The two men hail from Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, the police said, and identified the fetish priest as Festus Kwashie Babanao.

"It is not against the law to visit a shrine or a cathedral to pray for whatever your little heart desires," Prof. Asare wrote on Facebook.

He continued: "Further, spiritual advisors need to understand that communications between them and their members are both confidential and privileged.

"Pastor Kwashie Babanawo therefore breached his professional duty and ethics, when he reported the two persons who had sought spiritual advice from him to the police.

"In any event, the communication, being privileged, will not be admissible against the two persons in any good court, assuming that there is an offense.

"DCOP Doku, provide further and better particulars on why you have arrested and continue to detain Ebenezer Atsu and Shepherd Acolatse or release them immediately so they can enjoy farmers day with their families."
