My love offering to the NDC proves I love it best - Spio-Garbrah

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a contestant for the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and eventually, the Presidency of Ghana, on Tuesday submitted his nomination forms and paid a whopping GH¢305, 000 instead of GH¢300, 000 as filing fee at the National Headquarters of the Party to demonstrate that he loves the party best.

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah

In a statement released to the press on Wednesday after filing for nomination to partake in the presidential primaries on a date yet to be decided (because an Accra High Court has placed an injunction on the election scheduled for January 26, 2019), Dr. Spio-Garbrah indicated that "in paying the required fee of GH¢300, 000, I chose by divine inspiration to add a special 'love offering' of GH¢5000. It surprised me that other aspirants, some of whom are presumed to be far better resourced than my team and I, paid only the exact amount of GH¢300, 000".

Dr. Spio-Garbrah and other aspirants petitioned the Council of Elders of the party over high filing and nomination fees because according to him, it is wrong, a deviation from the philosophy of the NDC and would become a bad precedent in Ghana.

He noted that "some or all of us could have paid more. Although I consider these fees to be rather excessive and have protested and petitioned against them, the point I have made per the "Love offering" is that if for some people money is the main item that demonstrates a person's love for another or even for his political party, then l love the NDC more than the other aspirants.

"So like the two women in Solomon's Kingdom who disputed over who was the mother of a child, l hope it is now obvious to all which aspirant loves the NDC most".

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and his campaign team have been insisting that the right thing should be done in the NDC and all organizations by sticking to principles rather than mere self-interest or short-term convenience, as indiscipline and lawlessness are among the key banes of Ghana.

The incorruptible leader famously known for his integrity, has promised to bring decorum to the NDC race and 2020 presidential campaign. This has been largely demonstrated in his speeches and the well-established places he has worked, thus the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the Commonwealth Telecoms Organization (CTO). He has also been an Ambassador of Ghana to the United States of America and Mexico and worked as an Honourable Minister in the ministries of Energy, Education, Communication and Trade and Industry.

He spearheaded a team to work for Ghana to receive the Millennium Challenge Compact; and as former Minister for Education, he positively impacted the educational sector with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

Yesterday, I submitted my nomination forms and payment of fees to contest for the leadership of the NDC and eventually the Presidency of Ghana. This is an important and serious step in any man’s journey of life. It requires divine guidance, personal commitment, creative thinking and hard work, a strong campaign team, and the support of family, friends and well-wishers.

On this occasion, I wish to express warm appreciation and eternal thanks to all those who have supported me on this journey thus far....with their prayers, ideas, encouragement, criticism, resources, time and energy, money, logistics and goods in kind.

In paying the required fee of GH¢300,000, I chose by divine inspiration to add a special "love offering" of GH¢5,000. It surprised me that other aspirants, some of whom are presumed to be far better resourced than my team and I, paid only the exact amount of GH¢300,000. Evidently, some or all could have paid more. Although I consider these fees to be rather excessive and have protested and petitioned against them, the point I have made per the "Love offering" is that if for some people money is the main item that demonstrates a person’s love for another or even for his political party, then I love the NDC more than the other aspirants. Any of them could have chosen to pay more than the required minimum, but they didn’t.

So, like the two women in Solomon’s kingdom who disputed over who was the mother of a child, I hope it is now obvious to all which aspirant loves the NDC most.

I look forward to the continued guidance and blessings of God Almighty in my quest to lead Ghana, and to the love, support, ideas and encouragement of many more of you on this important journey of life.
