Three arrested over lynching of woman alleged to be a witch

Madam Yenboka Kenna, the deceased, who was also a widow, was killed at the Pelungu market on Monday, May 29, 2017.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Vincent Redeemer, said that the police is yet to ascertain whether those arrested so far were directly involved in the lynching.

According to him, the three were picked up after they tried to stop a witness from giving information about the killing.

He, however, indicated that the police were optimistic that the three could help them find out those behind the murder as they were assisting in investigation.

Meanwhile, Tindong-Raan, the Chief of Tindongo, the community where the deceased hails from, has said that even though the Pelungu chief has denied knowledge of the lynching, he has asked his people not to avenge the woman’s death.
