"I don't need $10,000 to play for Ghana"

Abdul Baba Rahman stated has that his love for Ghana supersedes the monetary gains when he plays for the Black Stars.

The winning bonus of the senior national football team of Ghana has under come intense scrutiny for several years and reached its height after the playing body of the Black Stars boycotted training prior to their final 2014 FIFA World Cup group game against Portugal over the delay in the payment of appearance fees.

The current minister of Youth and Sports, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has had several meetings with the Black Stars to negotiate about reducing the winning bonus from $10,000 due to the current economic hardship in the country and managed to do that in Ghana’s last qualification game.

Many Ghanaians have the believe that the Black Stars players are inspired by money rather than patriotism when it comes to rendering their services to the nation.

Howeve, the Chelsea defender has a contrary view to that.

“I don’t need $10,000 to play for the nation. I play for the nation with my heart. And I know most of the players don’t play for Ghana because of $10,000.

“It is just an arrangement between the players and the management that we will give you this ($10,000) if you win. Me personally, I don’t need it,” Baba Rahman told GTV
