CAF names Egypt as host for AFCON 2019

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has settled on Egypt as the new host of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Egypt beat off competition from South Africa who were equally interested in hosting the continental showpiece.

CAF stripped Cameroon off their hosting rights for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations over ill-preparation and political tension in the Central African country.

Egypt, the new host will be staging the competition for the very first time since 2006, which they won.

Egypt played in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2017, but they lost 2-1 against Cameroon.

Meanwhile, Cameroon who were stripped of their hosting rights will be staging the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, while Guinea have been shifted from 2023 to 2025 as the host nation
