Ranieri said the Ghanaian was not ready after his £5 million switch from FC Copenhagen but could feature on Saturday at Manchester City.
City have no other new injury concerns as Ritchie De Laet and Shinji Okazaki have recovered from knocks during City's break from action.
Only Jeff Schlupp and Matty James remain out of action and Ranieri revealed James had undergone a minor surgery procedure to correct a problem in his knee but the injury was not a re-occurrence of his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury, which has kept him out since May.
"He's (Amartey) not ready for tomorrow but I think he could be ready for the next match at Manchester City," he said.
"Schlupp is not ready yet. I think he will be back at the end of the month and everyone else is good. "James had a little problem in the last match for the under-21s.
Now he has to wait another one or two weeks and then he will be with us.
"Everyone else is okay."
