Women's league review

Review of the Ghana women's national league

It’s early days, however, the script is gradually being written and the puzzle being fixed on which of the 16 teams, has a shot to the  4th edition o

Three time winners, Hasaacas Ladies’ unbeaten run this season came to an end as they lost to Soccer Intellectuals 2-0 at the Ajumako UEW Park. The defeat means just a point separates first placed Hasaacas ladies and 2nd placed Soccer Intellectuals, who are the only unbeaten team in the in the Southern Zone.

Last season’s runners up of the league and Northern Zone Champions, Ampem Darkoa ladies commenced the league on a high, thrashing Subayo Golden 7-0 after which they have  recorded a win, a loss and a draw from the three games. This leaves last season’s runners up in the play-offs for the National Women’s league, 3rd on the Northern Zone table with 7 points.

Prison ladies who had a disappointing spell last season have been a dominant force in the Northern Zone and are currently the only team in the Women’s league to have won all four matches. Northern ladies have silently ebbed their way to the 2nd position after a 1-0 defeat to Prison ladies in the opener  at  home and have gone on to win all three games . The road has been a topsy turvy one for the 6 newly promoted teams as they are already feeling the pressures of top flight Women’s football.

In the Northern Zone the three new entrants complete the bottom three; Lepo Ladies, Real Upper Ladies and Subayo Golden ladies. Samaria Ladies are the only debutants in the league who are above the bottom ranks. Their counterparts Bafana Ladies are 7 with Halifax bottom of the table. It is quite certain that two of the newbies will make a quick exit from the National Women’s back to the wilderness.
