Ghanaian players were involved in some of the major transfers across the globe in 2020 and Pulse Ghana has listed the top eight of them.

2020 came with a lot of problems especially the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic which crippled the finances of several clubs in the world.

However, Ghanaian clubs were able to attract good offers from clubs which landed them at new destinations.

Below are the top eight Ghanaian transfers of 2020:

Kudus Mohammed: FC Nordsjælland to AFC Ajax (2020)

Black Stars midfielder Kudus Mohammed completed his switch from FC Nordsjælland to AFC Ajax in July 2020.

The club confirmed the attacking midfielder signed a five-year contract until June 30, 2025, after passing mandatory medical.

The Dutch champions paid 9 million euros plus bonuses and add-ons. This means Kudus become the most expensive teenager in the history of Ghana football.

The deal made him the most expensive Ghanaian teenager of all-time.

The 19-year-old joined Nordsjælland in 2018 after graduating from the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana.

He will wear the number 20 shirt at Ajax and will be looking to fill the big boots left by Hakim

Samuel Tetteh: Red Bull Salzburg to New York Red Bulls

The club will have the option to sign a permanent deal with Samuel Tetteh when his loan spell ends

“Samuel is an exciting attacking player that our scouts have been following,” said the club’s head of sport Kevin Thelwell.

“He is strong physically and technically and plays with a lot of confidence. He’s got intelligence in each phase of the game and we believe he’ll fit in well with our group.”

After he signed with Red Bull Salzburg from West African Football Academy in the Summer of 2016, the Ghanaian forward was loaned to FC Liefering, in Austria’s second division.

Tetteh had a strong first season with Liefering, tallying 10 goals and five assists in 20 appearances at 20 years old.

Samuel Tetteh was a member of the Black Satellites team that participated in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

He has played six games for the senior national male football team of Ghana and scored a goal.

Mohammed Salisu: Real Valladolid to Southampton

Ghanaian defender joined English Premier League side Southampton for £10.9million in August

Mohammed Salisu excelled in his debut La Liga season with Real Valladolid, after breaking into the first team from their youth side.

He was named in the La Liga breakthrough team of the season as well as the U-23 team of the season.

His performance caught the attention of several clubs including Manchester United and other European giants.

But, Southampton who took the lead in pursuit of the player has finally signed him for a £10.9million fee, according to Sky Sports.

However, although the deal is complete, he will have to spend 14 days in quarantine upon arrival in the United Kingdom due to the coronavirus travel restrictions in place with Spain.

The Ghanaian could be just the first of the defenders committing his future to the club in the coming days.

Mohammed Salisu is yet to commit the future of his international football to Ghana. Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana CK Akonnor said that the 21-year-old is not ready to play for the Black Stars, but his family denied such claims, saying their son is ever ready to wear the national team shirt of the West African powerhouse.

Richard Ofori: Maritzburg to Orlando Pirates

Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori completed his switch from Maritzburg United to Orlando Pirates in October, 2020.

Ofori signed a three-year deal with the Sowetan giants, after passing his mandatory medical.

Richard Ofori who helped Wa All Stars to clinch the Ghana Premier League in 2006 has been in an impeccable form in the Premier Soccer League, having been nominated for the goalkeeper of the year for the past two seasons.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper kept 11 clean sheets for Maritzburg in the 2019/2020 season helping them to finish 7th on the league standings.

Richard Ofori is now the 2nd Deputy Skipper of the Black Stars.

Mubarak Wakaso: Deportivo Alaves to Jiangsu Suning

Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso signed for Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning from Spanish La Liga side in a bumper transfer deal in January, 2020

The 27-year old joined Alaves in 2017, after agreeing to end his contract with Greek side Panathinaikos, following previous spells at Elche, Villarreal, Espanyol, Celtic, Las Palmas and Granada.

The Spanish giants expressed their gratitude to the midfield enforcer.

"Deportivo Alavés wants to thank Wakaso Mubarak for his professionalism and dedication during this time and wishes him the best of luck in his new stage," Alaves said in a statement on Saturday night.

Wakaso has played 1,285 minutes in 16 matches this season, starting in 15 of them.

He is the most carded player of the LaLiga this season with eleven yellow cards, twice in one game which resulted in his expulsion in the Granada game.

Bernard Mensah: Kayserispor to Besiktas

Besiktas signed Bernard Mensah from fellow Turkish top-flight side, Kayserispor on a season-long loan deal

The Ghana international left Kayserispor after two seasons and joined Besiktas on loan with an option to buy.

Besiktas paid €500,000 for the loan deal but will pay €4.5 million to make the move permanent at the end of 2020-21 season.

The 25-year-old signed a contract extension with Kayserispor until 2022 before moving to Besiktas.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder enjoyed an impressive 2019-20 season. He was involved in 13 goals, scoring five and assisting eight in 26 games.

Mensah has scored one goal in four appearances for Black Stars. He made his debut in 2015.

Thomas Partey: Atletico Madrid to Arsenal

Arsenal completed the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

The Gunners paid £45 million to meet Thomas Partey’s buyout clause from Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal reportedly had several bids for the central midfielder rejected during the summer, with Atleti holding out for the release clause fee.

Juventus and Arsenal had been interested all summer, but it seemed as though neither were willing to pay the full £45 million fees required to price Partey out of the Spanish capital.

This attitude filtered through to the player as well, who had resigned himself to focusing on the 2020/21 season with the Spanish giants irrespective of his dispute with the hierarchy behind the scenes, however, Arsenal's huge effort on deadline day made this deal a reality.

The Premier League club finally agreed to pay the £45 million fees and the 27-year-old and his medical took place in the Spanish capital.

The Guardian reported that he will be on £250,000-a-week at Arsenal.

Asamoah Gyan: Free transfer to Legon Cities

This is the highest money involved in the transfer of a player in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Although Gyan had been linked with Asante Kotoko the whole summer, the Royals presented the most attractive offer, winning over Ghana’s all-time top scorer.

The Asamoah Gyan began his career at Liberty Professionals before he joined Udinese in Italy and followed by a move to Rennes. Gyan afterwards joined Sunderland, before sealing a deal with Al Ain, Shanghai SIPG, Al Ahly, Kayserispor, NorthEast United.
