Black Stars draw Uganda, Congo, Egypt in African Qualifiers
The draw for the African Qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament was held on Friday, June 24, 2016. The
Ghana went into the draw seeded in Pot 1 with Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal and Tunisia.
Pot 2 had Cape Verde, Congo DR, Egypt, Mali and Nigeria with Pot 3 seeding Cameroon Congo, Guinea, Morocco and South Africa.
The last pot which was Pot 4 had Burkina Faso, Gabon, Libya, Uganda and Zambia.
Ghana started their qualification in Round 2 of the African Qualifiers where they played Comoros in a two legged tie. The Black Stars played out a goalless draw in the first leg away from home before handing Comoros a 2-0 defeat in Ghana to qualify to the Round 3 of the qualifiers on aggregate.
The draw for the groups in the African Qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia is as follows:
Group A: Libya, Guinea, DR Congo, Tunisia
Group B: Zambia, Cameroon, Nigeria, Algeria
Group C: Gabon, Morocco, Mali, Cote d'Ivoire
Group D: Burkina Faso, South Africa, Cape Verde, Senegal
Group E: Uganda, Congo, Egypt, Ghana
The first group stage matches will take place in October as the Black Stars of Ghana start their bid for a place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.
