30-yr-old teacher gets life ban for 'prolonged kissing, touching' with student
A teacher accused of behaving in an "inappropriate sexual manner" with a 17-year-old student has been banned from teaching Florida State.
Jessica Rivera, a former drama instructor at Lake Worth High had her licence revoked after her brief November 2013 romance with the student came to light.
According to state report, the 30-year-old teacher was involved in "prolonged kissing," inappropriate text messages and touching the student in an "inappropriate sexual manner."
No criminal charges were filed against Rivera because the victim was an older minor and no sex acts actually took place but she was fired on the 2nd of February 2014.
Her woes increased as Florida's Education Practices Commission permanently revoked her teaching license after a review of the case.
The student told police he first received text messages from Rivera "on how she would like to kiss him and that her marriage was not going well" after he volunteered to do the lighting for a play in rehearsals in October and November 2013.
He said he and the teacher French kissed for about 15 minutes and she also touched his upper thigh.
Rivera confirmed the student's claims and said "she knew what she was doing was inappropriate."
