Federer reaches another milestone at Australian Open
Roger Federer's illustrious career collected another milestone on Friday as he clocked up a 300th grand slam win at the Australian Open.
The four-time champion in Melbourne moved to within six of Martina Navratilova's record with a 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-4 over Grigor Dimitrov, Federer recovering after dropping the second set to progress with ease.
Novak Djokovic was given his first real test of the tournament by Andreas Seppi, but the top seed was able to move into the fourth round in straights sets.
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios clashed with the umpire over music being played during his defeat to sixth seed Tomas Berdych.
HEADLINE ACTS
Djokovic really needed to dig deep to fight his way past Seppi, the defending champion saving two set points in the third set tie-break before sealing his progression.
Federer and Nishikori also booked their fourth-round spots despite dropping a set, while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga came through two tie-breaks to beat Pierre Hugues-Herbert 6-4 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-4).
And there was a heart-warming show of sportsmanship in second set of David Goffin's victory over Dominic Thiem, the latter conceding a point after a deep Goffin return had been incorrectly called out. Thiem handed the point to his opponent rather than replaying the point as ordered to by the umpire.
SEEDS SAYING GOODBYE
With 14 seeds in action on day five it was inevitable some would be packing their bags, but the most surprising exit was that of former US Open champion Marin Cilic.
The big-serving Croat making 55 unforced errors as he was dumped out by 24th seed Roberto Bautista-Agut in straight sets.
Also leaving the tournament are Seppi, Dimitrov, Thiem, Seppi, Kyrgios and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
KEY STATS
Goffin continues to break new ground at the year's first grand slam, the Belgian into the fourth round having never previously been past the second in his four previous attempts.
Djokovic's victory over Seppi maintained his astonishing record against Italian opponents, the Serb unbeaten since 2004 – a run of 32 matches.

"I play mind games with them because I can speak Italian!" Djokovic offers a tongue-in-cheek reason for his superb record against Italian opposition.
"Are you okay? Are you okay? There is music playing in the crowd while we are playing. Can you hear that? It's a circus." – Kyrgios has a heated exchange with umpire James Keothavong.
