Captain of the side Asamoah Gyan won a penalty for Ghana midway through the first half after he was felled in the Ugandan 18-yard box. Ander Ayew subsequently converted from the resulting penalty to hand the Black Stars the lead.

And though Ghana managed to hold on to the lead till the end of the game, a second half onslaught from the Cranes got many Ghanaians sitting on tenterhooks in the dying embers of the game.
