Albert Ramos-Vinolas secured his first ATP World Tour title with victory over fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in Sunday's Swedish Open final.

Ramos-Vinolas had shocked another of his compatriots - top seed and two-time champion David Ferrer - to make the final in Bastad.

And the world number 35 built on that success by beating the more experienced Verdasco 6-3 6-4.

Playing in only his second final and first since 2012, Ramos-Vinolas started confidently, forcing a break point that went unconverted in the opening game before twice enjoying success on Verdasco's serve to open up a 4-2 lead.

Verdasco immediately retrieved one of the breaks, but dropped serve again when attempting to stay in the first set.

Ramos-Vinolas had to work hard to hold his serve at the start of set two, but finished the stronger to break his duck and deny Verdasco a second crown of the season.

The great Bjorn Borg, a three-time winner of this event in the 1970s, was on hand to present Ramos-Vinolas with the trophy.
