'All Ghanaian fans will have full representation' at 2026 World Cup - Foreign Affairs Minister
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Parliament that the government is working to secure broad and inclusive representation for Ghanaian football fans at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addressing the House, the minister said preparations are well underway to negotiate favourable terms with the host nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Welcome, this is very important. Mr Speaker, I know you'll be happy to hear this. During the World Cup, the foreign ministry wishes to assure the nation that we are negotiating on very good terms.
Ablakwa stressed that no Ghanaian supporter will be left behind for political or regional reasons.
Your constituents will have good representation at the World Cup… We will make sure that all Ghanaian soccer fans, regardless of political colourisation, regardless of how you vote, regardless of which part of the country you come from, there will be full representation.
He added that diplomatic and consular preparations will be prioritised once Ghana’s base camp is confirmed after the draw.
We are all watching the draw on Friday, December 5… We hope that wherever Ghana is camped, we will put in place the needed consular arrangements to ensure that Ghanaian soccer fans are well protected.
The assurance comes as the government intensifies engagements with U.S. and Canadian authorities to ease visa processes for fans.
The Minister concluded:
You can count on us to continue to enhance the image of our country and to pursue a foreign policy arrangement which is in the best interest of our country.
